INVENTION:
Word Ace – An electronic table-top word game for 1-6 players. Teaches children spelling and vocabulary skills in a fun, interactive way. The object of the game is to beat the other players in creating a word given a certain set of rules (example: create a seven-letter word where “s” is the second letter). Ed will be further developing his game with Hasbro and bringing it to the market.
Ed Hall, 40, resides in Chicago, Illinois with his girlfriend and their 2-year-old son. Ed is a former elementary and high school teacher and coach, whose 5th grade students inspired him to come up with his invention. He wanted to create an educational game that was as fun as it was challenging, to motivate his students to get excited about learning. Growing up, Ed was a high school basketball All-American. He also played college ball for the University of Illinois-Chicago. He had dreams of playing in the NBA and promised to get his mother a house outside of the rough neighborhood he grew up in. After finishing in the top four of the competition, and being given an opportunity by Hasbro, he’s hoping to make good on his promise

INVENTION:
“Here Comes Niya” – A trilingual doll that speaks in English, Spanish and Swahili. Teaches children language skills and the importance of ethnic diversity. Also helps encourage the acceptance of other cultures.

Darla Powell, 48, resides in Los Angeles, California. An active wife and mother of three, Darla devotes herself full-time to developing her invention, the “Niya” doll. “Niya” is named after Darla’s now-22 year old daughter. When Niya was born, Darla developed the doll as a fun and innovative way to teach her about her heritage. Growing up, Darla’s mother worked at a doll factory, and her entire family has contributed greatly to the development of her product. She’s hoping that 22 years of family sacrifice will finally be rewarded.

bio_Clemens.jpgINVENTION:
The Restroom Door Clip – A small plastic clip that attaches to the top of a restroom stall to hold the door closed when the stall is broken. Clips onto a pack of tissues for easy storage in a purse or pocket. UPDATE: You can find her product at www.keep-it-tidy.com.

Sharon Clemens resides in Huntington Beach, California and is a retired sales associate. Sharon created the Restroom Door Clip, now called the Stall Stopper™ after too many unpleasant experiences in public restrooms. The project has been keeping her quite busy in her retirement and is giving her a new lease on life.  Go to her website if you are interested in buying her product or helping her bring it to market.

INVENTION:
Tonerbelt™ is a fitness belt featuring two handles on retractable cords. The belt is worn around the waist, and the user pulls on the cords for resistance training, which provides a cardio workout and builds strength.

Robert Amore, 46, resides in New York City, where he is a youth hockey coach. Amore’s father passed away from a heart attack, and heart disease runs in his family. In order to combat his genetics, Amore has been an active athlete his entire life. He’s been working on the Tonerbelt™ for eight years, and hopes that it will help inspire Americans to get in better shape and will promote a healthier lifestyle.

Update: Mr. Amore has a website where he is selling his product, the Tonerbelt.
