Our show this week delves into the topic of Licensing. You came up with your million dollar idea. You did your research and found a credible and trustworthy patent attorney. You filed your patent application and have the protection of patent pending status. Now it’s time to get a return on your investment time and money spent. Just how do you do that? Entering into a favorable licensing and/or assignment agreement is imperative, and we discuss what you should include in such documents.

Anyone can be an inventor!

Have you ever been told that you are too old or too young to invent? Try telling that to Ryan Landis. Ryan, an eight year old resident of Plano, TX, was in need of a project for his school’s Invention Convention. As is common with inventors, he found a problem and then set out to solve it. His problem involved hangers and the frequency with which they broke or bent when he tried to remove his clothing from them. Enlisting the help of his father, they implemented pegs and rubber bands and developed a hanger that would bend with pressure allowing Ryan to remove his clothing from the hangers with ease.

Not only did Ryan solve his problems of what to enter into the Invention Convention and how to keep hangers from breaking, as an added bonus he also presented his invention to Wal-Mart who now sells his hangers in over 200 Wal- Mart stores. Let Ryan’s story be an inspiration to you. That great idea that you have? Act now. Go to www.youinventit.com and fill out your information disclosure form. Your success story could be the topic of a future newsletter. On last week’s edition of… ENTREPRENEUR MAGAZINE’S INVENTIONS, PATENTS & BEYOND… our show dealt with timeframes. Listen to the show by accessing the archives at Wsradio. The show answered questions such as how long it takes to prepare an application; how long it is until an application is granted or rejected; and how long the protection lasts if granted. Joining us was our guest, Robert A. Hafer. who has a long history with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Starting as a junior examiner in l969, he steadily rose through the ranks reaching the position of senior superviser in l998, a position he held until the year of 2000 when he became Director of Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) Operations. Bob and Hosts , Jillian and Intellectual Property Attorneys Steve Leavitt and John Pemberton explained the entire patenting process from start to finish. John gave us a good laugh with his Wacky Patent of the week. Do you have difficulty deciding whether to travel by horse or by car? Listen to John’s wacky patent of the week to see how you can travel by both simultaneously. If you have a nomination for “John Pemberton’s Weird, Wild & Wacky Patents of the week” we want to know!

The Law Office of Steven B. Leavitt is available to answer all your intellectual property questions. Phone us at 1-877-279-3003 toll free, direct 972- 412-2671 local or visit us at www.youinventit. com. To view our patent help blog, go to www.sho p4patents.com/blog/.
