How do I go about getting my idea patented so that before I go to manufacturers it is sealed up and they can’t send me on my way but use my idea? Does it cost money to patent…if so how much?

Before discussing your invention with anybody it is always best to have either a provisional patent application or a utility patent application on file with the Patent and Trademark Office. It does cost money to get a patent and how much depends on what your invention is, the amount of prior art there is that relates to your patent, and the law firm you use to write the patent application for you.

There are some law firms such as the Law Office of Steven B. Leavitt, L.L.P. that can put you on a payment plan. It would be best if you would contact our office at 941-331-4343 to discuss the issue and specific facts of your situation.

This is just a general summary based on the limited facts your provided. It would be best if you discussed
