The Latest on Wearable Gadgets
Posted by Administrator under Patents/Inventions/TechnologiesThe top mobile carrier in Japan is making advances in producing ‘wearable’ gadgets, according to a report by The Press Association. NTT DoCoMo is working on electronic gadgets that allow you to control the devices with body movements.
There is a portable music player that allows you to turn up the volume by rolling your eyes. And you can turn on a ‘wearable’ DVD player by tapping your fingers. Masaaki Fukumoto, who is an executive research engineer at NTT DoCoMo told The Press Association that there are sensors and chips in the headphones of one of the versions of theses wearable gadgets that detects electrical currents that are produced when a person wearing the device moves his eyes.
The company is currently working on the mobile phones of the future at a Tokyo research center, according to The Press Association report. The company believes that this new technology will eventually allow for a mobile device that can let the wearer do a variety of thing from playing video games, to downloading music, to checking email as well as shopping online.
In recent demonstrations a Tokyo researcher wore a giant wire-covered headset and was able to control computer graphic lines in a connected monitor by moving his eyes. The researcher was also successful in controlling a digital music player. He fast-forwarded the music by jerking his eyes to the right, and by rolling his eyes he was able to control the volume of the music player.
Researchers are hoping that this new technology may eventually allow wearers to get product information, download music and cash in on coupons by simply looking at bar codes.
Japanese researchers currently have a wearable mobile phone which resembles a ring, but is about as big as a ping pong ball. If the wearer sticks her fingers in her ears sound vibrations travel through her bones into her ears where it is heard as sound.
Another electronic wearable gadget looks like a wristwatch. When the wearer has this device on he can control such devices as a DVD player by manipulating his thumb and forefinger with tapping motions.
The Japanese researchers are working on wearable electronic devices with an ‘every day’ inconspicuous look.
